The Trump Message

11/9/2016

I will write a quick text now and a longer one later, after I will have digested the event a bit more. The unthinkable happened. The mysogonistic, racist, clueless, arrogant, intelectually limited, narcissist moron took the Presidency. Many reasons can explain this, such as a failure of the general education system to appropriately build a sound democracy consisting of neutral critical thinking and good judgement in the population or a total disconnect between politicians and their own people, and so many others. Note that the Senate and House of Representatives are also all Republican majorities.

But there IS a message. It is the same message as Brexit: ordinary folks have "had enough" and alhtough they can't really articulate what that even means and what they want instead, they want "change" and that change is long overdue. What change? Again, most "protesters" from the left or the right often articulate this "needed change" in totally imbecile ways and strange combos of wishes for policies, laws, and regulations that do not stand in the face of any form of basic economic analysis. But people "want change" at pretty much any cost. Political and financial elites from the EU to the UK to the USA must hear the message, because Brexit and Trump are one and the same: LISTEN!

Will he mess up the USA and the world?
I do not think he will. First, I still think he himself never thought or even wanted to win. He did this for the show, attention, and drama. He did not really think hard of the details of leading the most powerful nation of the world with the most complex and big economy and markets, proof is the total emptiness of his policy agenda.

The US President is not alone. There are MANY people and institutions around him. The Council of Economic Advisors, the Federal Reserve, the Bureau of Economic Analysis, the Congressional Budget Office, advisors on domestic and foreign policy, and on and on and on... of course WHO he surrounds himself with IS important, as we have seen with Cheeney and Rumsfeld under Bush. But I actually think the Bush presidency did more harm to the USA and the world than Trump ever will. Bush spread chaos and war all over the world under falsified "proof", paving the way to extremists such as ISIS today. Bush added more to the US debt in real terms than any other president. There is much to say, and for all his huff and puff, I think Trump will not cause extreme damage and may serve as a wake up call to the elites and the people.

The underdog wins
Cynics CAN'T say he was put there by Big Money or the general business-financial-political elite. He was disavowed by all. He has way less money and influential supporters. Clinton was the choice of Wall Street and the insider. Again, there is a message. The problem is actually putting words on what the message actually means, then even harder to articulate down-to-earth policies and specific actions on that anti-establishment message. That must be clarified and understood to move forward.

Do not panic. For now. He might listen to competent people. Those who were disenchanted with status quo and "those damned elites and bankers", well, there you have it: a rogue candidate who is a complete stranger to the harsh and cold world of Washington and Global Politics. These will be an entertaining 4 years... and a period of reflection and pondering about what direction to give to the USA and other rich countries. I admit: I wanted Clinton to win. But we must now avoid becoming drama queens before any drama is actually warranted in factual terms. Brexit and Trump are messages from democracy. Listen.

I will write more later today, after I have pondered this event a bit more.
